MLB Power Rankings 2022 August 15th
Top 3
Los Angeles Dodgers
Los Angeles Dodgers remain the best team in all of baseball after stringing together a 12-game winning streak that ended last Sunday against the Royals. With a 79-34 record, they are the only team that has not lost, so far, 40 games, and their leadership in the Western Division of the National League is practically assured. Last week they were co-leading the majors in hits with 39 and their batting average (.288) was the fifth best in the league.
Houston Astros
Taking advantage of the New York Yankees’ slump and their four-game winning streak, the Astros stormed into the American League lead last week by finishing Sunday with a 75-41 record. Despite a 3.76 ERA over the last seven days, Houston’s offense was a juggernaut and finished co-leading the majors in scoring with 39 plate appearances.
New York Mets
Another team that continues to be unbeatable is the Mets, who have won eight of their last 10 games and remain the second best team in the National League, behind the Dodgers, with a 75-40 record. The reason for its great moment? In the last week, New York’s pitching has been completely insane, allowing just five runs in 55 innings of work for a 0.82 ERA, of course the best in the Major Leagues.
Bottom 3
Detroit Tigers
Excluding Monday’s doubleheader with the Tigers, the Detroit team is on an eight-game losing streak and it is close to matching the Athletics for the worst record in the American League. Last week the Tigers’ offense produced only 14 runs and it was last in the Major Leagues with only two home runs hit. That’s why their 43-74 record at this stage of the season is not surprising.
Oakland Athletics
The Athletics remain the worst team in the American League as they were swept by the Houston Astros, snapping an eight-game winless streak. Last week, Oakland’s collective pitching was the ninth worst in the majors at 4.67, while the offense was second to last in runs scored with 13 and last in home runs hit with just two hits. Their record? 41-74.
Washington Nationals
It looks very complicated for the Nationals to take off the title of the worst team in the Major Leagues 2022 after losing eight of their last 10 games and registering a 38-78 record. Although their offense woke up last week with nine home runs and 20 runs scored, their pitching is still in intensive care and was the sixth worst in the circuit, registering effectiveness of 5.02.
