Betting on Germany
It is not easy for a national team with as much history as Germany’s to face a transition like the one that has taken place over the past four years. After the debacle that was Russia 2018, where they failed to make it out of the group stage, the successful cycle of Joachim Löw came to an end and Hansi Flick was brought in as coach.
So far, everything is still to be seen. The European Championship was a fiasco, as they also failed to advance from the round of 16 after being eliminated by runner-up England. And this year they managed only three victories in the nine matches they played, two of them against lesser rivals such as Israel and the recent one against Oman (the remaining one was against Italy). Too little for what such a squad can provide.

In the three preparatory matches for Qatar, they won against the United States, drew with Ecuador and lost to Canada. Takefusa Kubo and Takumi Minamino, who have played in Europe’s top leagues, are the two big names in the team coached by Hajime Moriyasu.
