Prograis knows that the fight against the Mexican will not be easy, as Zepeda has fought great fights in the two previous world championship opportunities he had, but luck has not been on his side lately.
Born in New Orleans, the 33-year-old Rougarou became an interim WBC super lightweight champion in 2018 when he defeated Julius Indongo. Jose Zepeda is a boxer of vast experience, as is his next opponent. Also a lefty, he will be a local in California. He has two unsuccessful attempts to win the world title. In 2015, when he was still undefeated, and a very interesting prospect, he lost to Britain’s Terry Flanagan for the WBO lightweight belt.
Four years later, he was unable to defeat American Jose Ramirez, who defeated him by a majority decision for the WBC super lightweight crown. Now he is betting on the saying “third time’s the charm”.
