As we are getting closer to the end of the year, we are also getting closer and closer to the beginning of the League 1 Betsson 2023, the first division of Peruvian soccer. The best teams in the country will once again face each other in search of the long-awaited title. At JefeBet we offer you an overview of the main favorites to fight for the title and their respective odds according to the stakes.
As usual, this season of the Betsson League 1 will be divided into two tournaments (Apertura and Clausura), which will be played in a round-robin system of 19 rounds, while to decide the champion of the season there will be playoffs between the winners of each tournament along with the top two teams of the cumulative table, always considering the following:
- If the champions of each tournament and the first two in the cumulative table are different teams, Semifinals and Final will be played.
- If a team wins the Apertura or Clausura, and is among the top two in the cumulative table, it qualifies directly to the Final. Their opponent will be the winner of the semifinal between the other winner of one of the tournaments and the other team with the highest cumulative score.
- If the two winning teams of the tournaments are also among the top two in the cumulative table, the Final will be played directly between those teams.
- If a team is the winner of both tournaments, it will automatically be crowned national champion.

Favorites
1.- Alianza Lima (+376)
In 2022, Alianza Lima was crowned twice champion of the Peruvian first division and will now seek to win its third title in a row and thus catch up with Universitario as the most winning team in the Inca country.
Alianza Lima was one of the most dominant teams last season, and have managed to maintain the core of the team that made them so successful, starting with their young coach Guillermo Salas, and have also added Gabriel Costa from Chile’s Colo-Colo, and Bryan Reyna, who arrives from Cantolao.
In addition to this, there are rumors of a possible loan of Peruvian national team player Christian Cueva.
2.- Sporting Cristal (+613)
Although it has been in the fight for titles in recent years, Sporting Cristal has remained in the shadow of Alianza Lima in the last two, and even though it led the overall standings last season, it was unable to win either of the two tournaments.
To change their luck, Alianza has decided to renew the bench by bringing in a coach with a long track record in Brazilian soccer as Tiago Nunes and who led Atlético Paranaense to be crowned champions of the Copa Sudamericana in 2018, while its most bombastic signing has been young Adrian Ascues from Deportivo Municipal, where he scored 10 goals last year.
3.- FBC Melgar (+653)
Melgar was one of the big surprises in the 2022 campaign, being crowned champion of the Apertura tournament, and even defeating Sporting Cristal 4-0 in the playoffs to seal their place in the final, where they would end up losing 2-1 on aggregate after winning the first leg game by a score of 1-0.
Although it has announced some departures, the team from Arequipa has also made some interesting signings, such as Jhamir D’Arrigo and Sebastián Cavero, from Cantolao and Atlético Grau, respectively. But the acquisition that most rumbled in the market was that of Argentinean Tomás Martínez, who has experience in Europe and arrives from Aldosivi of Argentina.
Sleeper
Club Universitario de Deportes (+900)
With 26 first division titles to its name, Universitario is the team with most tournaments won in Peruvian soccer, however, it has not been able to transcend since 2013, when it won its last title, and even last year it finished fifth in the overall standings, being very far from qualifying for the playoffs.
With the need to return to their glory years, the Merengue has made some interesting acquisitions such as Horacio Calcaterra from Sporting Cristal, José Bolívar from Sport Boys and Chilean Rodrigo Ureña. However, these are not expected to make a revolution in the historic team.
Dark Horse
Sport Huancayo (+1200)
Sport Huancayo has been the talk of the town in recent years, especially in the 2022 season, where it finished second in the Apertura Tournament and was only one point off the top, and although it failed to qualify for the final playoffs, it finished fourth in the overall standings, thus earning a place in the next Copa Libertadores.
Now with a little more experience, Sport Huancayo promise to once again be one of the competition’s main entertainers, and with the news of the renewal of Luis Benites, who was the top scorer in the last championship, they could be the surprise of this new coming season.
JefeBet Prediction
Undoubtedly, a beautiful and exciting Liga 1 Betsson 2023 awaits us, in which it is inevitable that Alianza Lima, twice champion and with an enviable squad, will be the big favorite, but we must not take our eyes off other teams that have been reinforced very well or are ready to take the leap to the next level in this upcoming campaign of Peruvian soccer.
