Top 5 Best Liga MX Players for Matchday 6

Liga MX held its sixth matchday of the Clausura 2022 this weekend. There were 20 goals in total, and only six of the 18 teams managed to emerge victorious in their matches. In addition, only one of the teams that won managed to grab the spotlight: Cruz Azul, as they won playing as visitors.

In terms of individual performance, only a few players managed to shine and, as was to be expected, two players from the “Maquina Cementera” are included in this count for their performances over the weekend.

1.- Santiago Giménez (Cruz Azul)

Cruz Azul’s young striker got on the scoreboard twice in his team’s 1-4 win over the Diablos Rojos de Toluca. Giménez did not appear in the starting lineup, was introduced as a substitute in the 77th minute. Two minutes later he took a penalty kick and converted it into a goal to end a drought of almost six months, his previous goal having come on August 30, 2021 against Pachuca. His second goal of the match was a header in the 82nd minute to seal the final score of 1-4.

2.- Nicolás Ibáñez (Pachuca)

The Argentine striker, who plays for the Pachuca Tuzos, leads the scoring charts in this Clausura 2022. This Sunday, he had a great performance in his team’s 1-3 win against Club América at the Azteca Stadium, where he contributed with a goal. Ibañez has scored in Pachuca’s last three games and has five goals and one assist in total.

3.- André-Pierre Gignac (Tigres)

The French striker seems to have regained his goalscoring instinct, having scored for the fourth consecutive matchday. Not only did his goal put him in second place in the scoring charts, but it also gave Tigres a 2-1 win over San Luis.

4.- Carlos Rodríguez (Cruz Azul)

“Charly”, as he has been known since his time with Rayados de Monterrey, was at his best this Sunday in Cruz Azul’s win over Toluca. The midfielder did very well and was rewarded with a goal and an assist to his name. The good performances are becoming more and more frequent and after six matchdays, Rodríguez has three goals and two assists, making him the player with the most participation in Cruz Azul’s goals.

It is important to remember that during his time with Rayados he played 100 games and scored only four goals, so he is currently in his best scoring form.

5.- Ángel Sepúlveda (Querétaro)

He arrived at Querétaro to reinforce the attack, and his effort is bearing fruits. In Saturday’s game against Mazatlan, Sepulveda scored the second and final goal of the game. He has scored in two consecutive matches and in total has three goals in the recent tournament, and thanks to this he has taken over the starting lineup.
