Betting on the Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys maintain their hopes of snatching not only the NFC East lead from the Eagles, but also the National Conference lead after a big win against them last week.
The team from Dallas needs to win its last two games, and for Philadelphia to lose theirs, to move into first place in what has probably been the best division in the league this year. For this purpose, they need to maintain the superlative offensive performance they’ve had in the last eight games by scoring at least 27 points in all of them, including four of 40 or more.
The Cowboys enter this penultimate week third in touchdowns scored in the league. Meanwhile, they are second in rushing TDs with 23 and are also second in red zone touchdowns after scoring on 70.6% of their visits.
On the defensive side, the performance has dropped a bit in the last two weeks, but Dallas is still among the best units in the circuit. They lead the league in fumbles recovered with 30, are third in the fewest rushing TDs conceded with just eight, and also occupy that position in opposing quarterback sacks with 49. They just need to get a little better at allowing plays of less yardage and be more solid in the red zone, as opponents score on 56.1% of their visits.
Betting on the Tennessee Titans
The Titans are on the verge of suffering one of the biggest losses in recent years thanks to their five losses in a row. They are currently tied for the lead in the AFC South with the Jaguars, the team they’ll face in the last week of action and who are currently winning the head-to-head duel.
Tennessee’s main problem is undoubtedly its offense, which, even with Derrick Henry on its side, has not been able to get going. The Titans have the seventh fewest points scored in the league with 269 and in their last 10 games have only scored more than 17 points three times.
They are last in first downs gained with 241, their 2,529 passing yards are the third lowest and they have allowed the seventh most sacks to their QB with 43. Of course on the ground they are among the best in the league and in the red zone, with Henry, they are among the elite. But, without the passing game, things get very complicated.
The Titans have made an effort to play as defensively sound as possible, but without the support of the offense, little can be done. Only twice in the previous 12 games did the opposition score more than 20 points, and only three times this season did their ground defense allow more than 100 yards.
That’s why they are second in fewest rushing yards allowed and average yards per rush. Meanwhile, like the Cowboys, they have only scored eight rushing TDs. Being second in total passing yards and passing touchdowns allowed, they obviously have difficulties defending passes, just like their offense has difficulties scoring through the air.
