Betting on the Ohio State Buckeyes
- Regular Season Record: 11-15
Not much is going right for the Buckeyes this season, as the losses have piled up for them of late. But at least they are losing to elite teams, which is also why they are still a top-60 NET team. The Big 12 is simply a brutal league with elite teams all over. For Ohio State, it can draw confidence for this upcoming showdown against the Boilermakers from the fact that they lost by just a bucket in the first meeting with Purdue (71-69).
In that game, the Buckeyes were the slim home favorite but even in a loss, they looked competitive against a powerhouse. Brice Sensabaugh dropped 21 points to lead the Buckeyes versus Purdue, while Justice Sueing chipped in 15 points. Ohio State’s defense gave the Boilermakers headaches, with the Buckeyes forcing 14 turnovers and holding Purdue to only 43.1 FG%.
Ohio State is 6-3-1 ATS in its last 10 road games versus Purdue.
Betting on the Purdue Boilermakers
- Regular Season Record: 23-4
Purdue has looked shaky of late but is still a force to reckon with not just in the Big Ten but in the entire Division 1 basketball world. They have an excellent offense with a sturdy defense plus a great coach in Matt Painter. On the season, Purdue is a top-10 team in terms of adjusted offensive efficiency and top 30 in adjusted defensive efficiency.
The Boilermakers are so good at rebounding the ball, which makes a lot of sense because their best player is the 7-4 Zach Edey. In the win against Ohio State, Edey had 16 points and 11 rebounds. Purdue also outrebounded the Buckeyes (37-27) and created plenty of second chances on offense with 16 offensive rebounds. The Boilermakers, who lead the Big Ten in offensive rebounding rate, are 3-0 ATS in their last three games as the home team.
JefeBet Prediction
Considering the state of the Boilermakers of late and the success of Ohio State when covering the spread in their past visits to West Lafayette, I can see the Buckeyes put up a fight here, just enough for them to cover the spread at the very least.
Prediction: Ohio State covers.
