Betting on the Memphis Tigers
- Regular Season Record: 20-6
Penny Hardaway is doing an admirable job of coaching the Tigers. At their current pace, the Tigers should see themselves earning an at-large berth for March Madness, assuming of course that they don’t win the conference tournament. But again, Hardaway’s boys look dangerous against any team. Memphis has wins against the likes of the Auburn Tigers, Texas A&M Aggies, and Cincinnati Bearcats.
And when they battled against a national powerhouse in the form of the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa last December, the Tigers lost by only three points (91-88), thus showing just how capable Memphis is. Memphis also has had plenty of success against the spread in its last several visits to Houston. In fact, the Tigers are 8-2 ATS in their 10 most recent trips to the home of the Cougars, dating back to 2018.
Betting on the Houston Cougars
- Regular Season Record: 24-2
Houston has pretty much made it clear that it is the best team in the AAC. It started conference play with six wins in a row. The Cougars have also lost just twice in 15 home games, so far this season. The success the Cougars are having this season is mainly because they are elite on both ends of the floor.
As a matter of fact, Houston is the only team this season that is inside the top 10 in both of KenPom’s adjusted offensive efficiency and adjusted defensive efficiency, as of this writing. Senior guard Marcus Sasser and freshman center Jarace Walker form an incredible inside-outside duo. Walker, who is expected to be a first-round pick in the upcoming 2023 NBA Draft, can shoot the ball from the perimeter as well, as he’s making around 40% of his attempts from behind the arc. The Under is 2-1 in Houston’s last three home games.
