Betting on DC United
The capital team is coming off a dreadful 2022 season, in which not only did they fail to advance to the playoffs, but they also finished the regular season at the bottom of the Eastern Conference and as the worst team in MLS with just 27 points in 34 games played (seven wins, six draws, 21 losses).
The team coached by Wayne Rooney was a disaster in all aspects, scoring the fewest goals (36) and conceding the highest number of goals (71) in the league, so the young English coach has a lot of work to do if he wants to return his team to the decisive stages of the competition.
However, their preparation for this new campaign was not the best either, winning only one of the four friendly matches they played, something that has left their supporters worried, as they have also lost four consecutive league games. In addition, DC United has managed to take all three points in just one of its last 12 home games.
Possible Lineup (4-3-3): Tyler Miller; Ruan, Donovan Pines, Steve Birnbaum, Mohanad Jeahze; Mateusz Klich, Chris Durkin, Ravel Morrison; Taxiarchis Fountas, Christian Benteke, Martin Rodriguez.
Betting on Toronto FC
Things in 2022 did not go according to plan for Toronto FC neither, who missed out on the postseason for the second consecutive year by joining DC United at the bottom of the standings and finishing second to last in the Eastern Conference with just 34 points (nine wins, seven draws, 18 losses).
This season is expected to be different for the Red Bulls, who will now be able to count on their two big signings from last year, Italians Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi, from Napoli and Juventus of Serie A, respectively.
While those two players will make their offense take a quality leap, perhaps their focus should be different, as they have allowed two or more goals in seven of their last nine league games. Improving defensively appears to be a must for Toronto here, having allowed four goals in each of their last three away games and winning just two of their 17 away games last campaign.
Possible Lineup (4-3-3): Sean Johnson; Richie Laryea, Matt Hedges, Sigurd Rosted, Raoul Pedretta; Jonathan Osorio, Michael Bradley, Mark-Anthony Kaye; Federico Bernandeschi, Adama Diomande, Lorenzo Insigne.
JefeBet Prediction
Both sides are disasters defensively, and although they had some interesting additions, they didn’t look much different during their preseason, conceding goals in every game. They are not the best offensively, but at least they have the ability to take advantage of their opponents’ weaknesses at the back.
Given their defensive woes, we expect another high-scoring game. The last eight DC United vs Toronto FC matches have featured three goals or more.
Prediction: Over (UNI 2-2 TOR).
