Betting on the Xavier Musketeers
- Regular Season Record: 24-8
Xavier was able to outlast the DePaul Demon Deacons in a wild shootout Thursday to come out alive from the quarterfinal round with an 89-84 win. With that, the Musketeers are now 10-2 against the spread in their last 12 games played in a neutral location. Xavier was led in that game by seven-footer Jack Nunge, who went off for 23 points, and also dealt damage on DePaul from deep with a trio of 3-pointers on four attempts from deep.
Meanwhile, Colby Jones led a rally for Xavier in the second half and finished with 22 points. It’s really not easy to contain Xavier’s offense, one that finished the regular season sixth overall in the nation with 120.4 points per 100 possessions and also sixth with 82.3 points per game. The Musketeers used that offense to eke out a 90-87 win against Creighton back in January at home.
Betting on the Creighton Bluejays
- Regular Season Record: 21-11
Like Xavier, the Bluejays got out of the quarterfinal round via an 87-74 win over the Villanova Wildcats. Creighton’s defense shined in that contest, as the Bluejays held the Wildcats down to only 41.9 percent shooting from the field. On the other end of the floor, Creighton made 50 percent of their field-goal attempts and also went 12/25 from behind the arc. Although they are considered more of a defensive team, Creighton’s offense isn’t too shabby either.
The Bluejays could also exploit Xavier’s inconsistent defense that finished the regular season just seventh in the Big East in adjusted efficiency (105.4). Back in the regular season, the Bluejays ranked inside the top 40 in the nation with 77.2 points per game and top 30 in effective field goal percentage (54.6%). When they beat Xavier at home late last January, the Bluejays shot 56.7 percent from the field and posted a 63.3 eFG% in an 84-67 win.
JefeBet Prediction
This game is going to be a down-to-the-wire affair but we see the Bluejays pulling off a win, thanks to better execution in the clutch.
Prediction: Creighton wins, 77-73.
