Betting on the Kansas Jayhawks

  • Regular Season Record: 26-6

Behind the great performances of Jalen Wilson and Gradey Dick, the Jayhawks staved off the West Virginia Mountaineers in Thursday’s quarterfinals matchup, 78-61. It was a dominant show for Kansas that can also act as a strong message to the rest of the nation – especially to its next opponent, Iowa State. Wilson led the Jayhawks in that game with 22 points, while Dick went off for 18 points on the strength of 4/7 shooting from behind the arc.

It’s possible that Kansas’ offense will slow down at least a bit versus the Cyclones, who certainly know how to play defense, but the Jayhawks aren’t just all about scoring, though. They can also win with their defense that finished the regular season 30th in opponents’ effective field goal percentage (47%) and eighth with just 91.7 points allowed per 100 possessions adjusted. The Jayhawks are 4-1 ATS in their last five games after an ATS win.

Betting on the Iowa State Cyclones

  • Regular Season Record: 19-12

Iowa State flashed its mighty form also on Thursday with a 78-72 win against the Baylor Bears to move on to the Big 12 semifinals. Baylor was actually seeded higher in the tournament than the Cyclones, but that did not matter to Iowa State, which has plenty of huge wins on its resume. Among the Cyclones’ victims in fact are the Jayhawks, whom Iowa State beat in Ames last February, 68-53.

As mentioned earlier, the Cyclones are a great defensive team, as it is seventh nationally after the regular season with just 91.7 points allowed per 100 possessions adjusted and also second in defensive turnover rate (25.1%). In their win over Kansas, the Cyclones held the Jayhawks to only 38.6 FG% and forced 20 turnovers to just 10 by Iowa State. The Cyclones are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 neutral site contests.
