Betting on the Xavier Musketeers

  • Regular Season Record: 27-9

Xavier is headed to the Sweet Sixteen round, thanks to an 84-73 win in the second round last Sunday over the Pittsburgh Panthers. The Musketeers have been scoring nicely so far in the NCAA tournament. They struggled a bit with their shot in the first round against the Kennesaw State Owls before ending up with a 72-67 win but have improved on their shooting in the Pittsburgh game in which Xavier posted a 54 eFG%.

Xavier has always been a great offensive team this season, even ranking seventh as of this writing nationally with a 118.5 adjusted offensive efficiency and 12th with a 55.4 eFG%. All five of their starters scored at least 10 points versus the Panthers, giving Xavier’s key players a major confidence boost heading into the showdown versus Texas.

Betting on the Texas Longhorns

  • Regular Season Record: 28-8

It’s been more or less smooth sailing for the Longhorns in the Big Dance. They opened up their NCAA tournament campaign with an 81-61 destruction of the Colgate Raiders in the first round before handling the business in the second round with a 71-66 victory over the Penn State Nittany Lions last Saturday.

Even though they shot a horrible 1/13 from deep in the Penn State game, the Longhorns still came away with a 51.6 eFG% and a 50.8 FG%, thanks to their domination inside the arc (30/48, 62.5 2FG%). The Longhorns could continue muscling their way for points near the basket this Friday versus a Xavier defense that is just 94th in the nation in defensive two-point field goal percentage.

JefeBet Prediction

This could end up being a high-scoring game with great back-and-forth action down the stretch. But it’s going to be Texas who will come out with the timely baskets and stops in the second half to pull off a hard-earned victory.

Prediction: Texas wins, 77-74.
