Betting on the Miami Hurricanes
- Regular Season Record: 26-7
For the first time in school history, the Hurricanes have made it to the Sweet Sixteen round in back-to-back years. That’s after the Hurricanes demolished Trayce Jackson-Davis and the Indiana Hoosiers in the second round on Sunday, 85-69. Miami scored like a typhoon on the Hoosiers, as the Canes shot 48.6 percent from the floor, including a 9/23 line from behind the arc.
Miami just got so many more possessions than the Hoosiers, thanks to it out-rebounding Indiana by 17 boards, 38-17. Miami entered the NCAA tournament as one of the best offensive teams in the nation and finding a way to get buckets has been its specialty. On the season, Miami is scoring 118.0 points per 100 possessions adjusted and posting a high 54.4 eFG%.
Betting on the Houston Cougars
- Regular Season Record: 33-3
Tramon Mark is averaging just 10.0 points per game this season, but he exploded for 26 points in the Cougars’ 81-64 annihilation of the Auburn Tigers in the second round last Saturday. That was a welcome performance from Mark for the Cougars, who also saw Marcus Sasser play up to par after an injury scare in the first round. With Sasser closer to 100% and Houston looking so stable, the Cougars are in fine form heading to a matchup versus the Hurricanes.
Houston’s defense is going to be rightfully tested by the Hurricanes, but the Cougars have consistently shown how tough it is to score on them. The Cougars are fourth nationally with just 89.3 points allowed per 100 possessions adjusted and second with only 56.6 points allowed per game back in the regular season.
Offensively, Mark, Sasser, and the rest of the Cougars can exploit Miami’s defense which was just 211th in the regular season with 71.6 points allowed per game.
JefeBet Prediction
Miami is all pumped up, but the Hurricanes will find Houston as just a much more different animal to contend with than Indiana. Marcus Sasser, Jarace Walker, and Jamal Shead plus Tramon Mark come up with a complete game as a unit to get past Miami.
Prediction: Houston wins, 77-72.
