Betting on the Miami Hurricanes

  • Regular Season Record: 28-7

The storm that is Miami remains in the NCAA tournament, as the Hurricanes just won’t go away. Miami clinched a ticket to the Elite Eight round by taking down No. 1 Houston Cougars last Friday, 89-75. It was a convincing win that should squash any remaining doubts about Miami’s legitimacy as a contender for the national title.

Prior to that, the Canes beat the Drake Bulldogs in the first round, 63-56, and then blasted the Indiana Hoosiers in the second round, 85-69. It’s been long believed that if Miami is to win it all in the tournament, it’s mostly going to be because of its offense which is sixth in the nation with 119.0 points average per 100 possessions adjusted and 15th with 79.4 points per game. Also take note that the Hurricanes are 9-3 against the spread in their last 12 games versus a team with a winning record.

Betting on the Texas Longhorns

  • Regular Season Record: 29-8

Texas is still going strong. The Big 12 tournament champions sent the Xavier Musketeers home with a huge 83-71 win in the Sweet 16 round. Before that, the Longhorns thrashed the Colgate Raiders in the first round, 81-61, and then outlasted the Penn State Nittany Lions in the second round, 71-66.

One concern at the moment for Texas is the health of big man Dylan Disu, who hurt his foot in the Penn State game and played just two minutes in the win against the Musketeers. In any case, the Longhorns have enough weapons to keep up with the high-scoring Hurricanes. Marcus Carr, Sir’Jabari Rice, Tyrese Hunter, and Timmy Allen are each averaging at least 10 points per game for Texas, which is top-20 in the nation with 116.6 points per 100 possessions adjusted. The Longhorns are 5-0-1 ATS in their last six neutral site contests.

JefeBet Prediction

Both Miami and Texas are playing at a high level, but it does feel that Miami’s success is more sustainable, especially since there’s a big question mark on the health of the Longhorns, particularly Disu’s.

Prediction: Miami wins, 79-78.
