In the Elite Eight round, a controversial call in the dying seconds of the contest against the Creighton Bluejays led to a 67-66 victory for San Diego State, which has a suffocating defense that can stifle any team.
- Florida Atlantic has survived the tests given to it by the Tennessee Volunteers and the Kansas State Wildcats in the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight, respectively. In other words, the Owls have shown enough to prove that they are more than just a flash in the pan in the Big Dance.
