Kim Mulkey and the Tigers are a win away from reaching the pinnacle of women’s college basketball. And they did that by going through the eye of the needle in the national semifinals on Friday, scoring a 79-72 come-from-behind victory over No. 1 seed Virginia Tech Hokies. LSU showed tremendous fight despite being down by 12 in the third quarter, thanks in large part to the performance of junior forward Angel Reese, who posted a double-double of 24 points and 12 rebounds with three steals.
Reese has been an unstoppable force this season, and especially in the NCAA tournament. In fact, Reese just became the first player in the history of the Big Dance to accumulate 100 points, 70 rebounds, 10 blocks, and 10 steals in a single edition of the tourney. It’s not just Reese, who’s going to be a big thorn in the side of LSU’s opponent in the finals, though. There’s also senior guard Alexis Morris, who blew up for 27 points versus Virginia Tech.

Everyone knew before that South Carolina game that the Hawkeyes would need a big game from Clark to get past the Gamecocks and that’s exactly what she did, scoring 41 points with six rebounds, and eight assists.
Iowa’s stellar offense proved to be too much for the Gamecocks’ elite defense. The manner with which the Hawkeyes had their way against South Carolina speaks volumes about the unbelievable capability of their offense. Iowa walked into that meeting with the Gamecocks averaging the most points per game in the nation with 87.6 PPG on 51.1 FG% — also No. 1 overall. As long as Iowa has Clark, the Hawkeyes will not have to worry about generating buckets and scoring chances.
