Predictions, Picks, and Betting Odds for the 2023 Eastern Conference Finals
Miami Heat vs Boston Celtics
The Heat are the Cinderella team of this year’s NBA Playoffs. This is a squad that finished just eighth in the East in the regular season with a 44-38 record. They even lost their first Play-in Tournament matchup versus the Atlanta Hawks before getting it together in their next try against the Chicago Bulls to earn the final spot in the East. And their reward for that? A first-round matchup versus the No. 1 overall seed in the conference in the form of the Milwaukee Bucks. Miami pulled off a stunner, of course, as they defeated the Bucks in five games before knocking out the New York Knicks in the second round in six games.
As for the Celtics, it’s not entirely smooth sailing for them in the playoffs but they have flexed their muscle just enough to come away with convincing series victories. The Celtics took a little bit longer dispatching the Atlanta Hawks of in the first round, needing six games to get the job done. However, it was clear that they were a cut above the Hawks. In the second round, the Celtics simply overpowered the Philadelphia 76ers. The Sixers actually led the series, 3-2, after five games, but Jayson Tatum and the Celtics proved to be tough to get rid of. The Celtics’ defense also did an outstanding job of cutting Sixers superstars James Harden and Joel Embiid down to size. Both stars struggled for the most part of the series. If the Celtics can do that to Harden and Embiid, who’s to say they can’t apply the same treatment to Butler and Bam Adebayo?
After two rounds, the Celtics are No. 2 in the playoffs overall with a 118.1 offensive rating. The Heat, on the other hand, have an offensive rating of 115.7.
Prediction: The Celtics win the series in six games.
