Scheduled to start for the Dodgers this Thursday is southpaw Julio Urias, who will look to sustain his undefeated run this month. Urias picked up three consecutive losses in April, but he’s been on the upswing since. He’s gone 2-0 with a 2.29 ERA across 19.2 innings and three starts in May, thus far. Moreover, he’s been pretty successful this season when matched up against San Diego.
His last two starts have also come against the Padres, and he’s allowed only four earned runs on 11 hits with seven strikeouts over the course of 12.2 innings in those games. Urias, who is also 3-1 with a 2.65 ERA and 1.232 WHIP in nine career appearances (seven starts) at Petco Park, can feel good about getting run support from the likes of Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Jason Heyward. Each of those batters has a career batting average of .300 or better against Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright.
Starting pitcher: Julio Urias (5-3, 3.61 ERA).
Betting on the St. Louis Cardinals
- Season record 2023: 18-26
- Moneyline: (+125)
- Run Line: (+1.5, -140)
- Over/Under: (8.5)

Adam Wainwright is still looking for his first win of the season, and that’s what he will be going for when he makes his third start of the year in the big leagues this coming Thursday. Wainwright, who had just been activated from a stint on the 15-day injured list because of a groin issue, made his season debut versus the Detroit Tigers on May 7. In that game, he allowed four earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts across five innings during a 6-5 loss for St. Louis, though, he did not factor into a decision.
That was the case again when he pitched for five innings and surrendered four earned runs on seven hits while fanning two hitters in an 8-6 victory at Fenway Park over the Boston Red Sox last Friday. At 41 years old, there isn’t plenty of gas left in the tank of Wainwright, but he’s someone who can still turn back the hands of time with a vintage performance from time to time.
Starting pitcher: Adam Wainwright (0-0, 7.20 ERA).
JefeBet Prediction
The Cardinals have been producing quite a lot at the plate of late, but the Dodgers will batter Wainwright this Thursday. Take the Dodgers to win and cover.
