Chris Sale is no longer the terrifying strikeout machine that he used to be – or maybe he still is. The 34-year-old Red Sox lefty has been fantastic of late. From an ERA of over 11.00 in the middle of April, he’s managed to lower that to just 5.40 heading into this start against the Padres.
In two starts this May, Sale has allowed just four earned runs on 10 hits while striking out 19 across 14.0 innings of work on the hill. Behind Sale is the Red Sox’s offense which is among the most productive in the big leagues. Don’t be surprised to see Justin Turner have a good performance in this game, as he is 7-for-17 with three home runs and five RBI lifetime against Padres starter Joe Musgrove.
Starting pitcher: Chris Sale (3-2, 5.40 ERA).
Betting on the San Diego Padres
- Season record 2023: 20-25
- Moneyline: (-125)
- Run Line: (-1.5, +160)
- Over/Under: (8.0)
All odds are provided by DraftKings.
Like Sale, Musgrove has managed to significantly improve his ERA of late. After ending April with a 10.80 ERA, Musgrove has bettered his ERA to 6.63 after a couple of starts (both against the mighty Los Angeles Dodgers). If anything, Musgrove’s last start at Petco Park was a sensational one, as he allowed zero earned runs on two hits with five strikeouts in 5.0 innings, albeit in a 5-2 home loss to the Dodgers on May 7.
Although the Padres’ offense has been disappointing for the most part of the season, they still are a very potent team at the plate, at least on paper. They still have the likes of Juan Soto and Xander Bogaerts on the team. Speaking of Bogaertsm the shortstop is 5-for-1`2 with a homer so far in his career versus Sale.
Starting pitcher: Joe Musgrove (1-1, 6.63 ERA).
JefeBet Prediction
The Red Sox’s offense lit up San Diego on Friday, with Boston torching Blake Snell. The bats can still be hot for Boston, so a moneyline pick for the Red Sox seems enticing.
Prediction: The Red Sox win, 5-3.
