The Nationals will look to get back on track after failing to complete a three-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals in a recently concluded series at Kauffman Stadium. Washington won the first two games of that series by a combined score of 16-12 before losing Game 3 on Sunday, 3-2. It will be a short turnaround from that series to this new one for Washington with no day of rest in between.
If anything, the Nationals have won eight of their last nine games that came after an outing in which Washington coughed up just two runs or fewer. Starting for the Nats in the series against the Dodgers is Trevor Williams, who is 1-1 with a 4.56 ERA in five appearances so far this month of May. While his May ERA isn’t all that encouraging, Williams still has seen the Nationals win in all but one of his last five appearances.

The Dodgers will come into Game 1 of the Nationals series a bit wobbly. They are coming off an 11-10 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. That’s the Dodgers’ third loss in four games. Los Angeles obviously lost that Rays game not because of paltry offense. Over their last two games, the Dodgers have scored 17 runs, so they will be hoping that they remain hot at the plate in the series-opener versus the Nationals.
It’s a good sign for the Dodgers that Williams has not been very good on the mound over his last several appearances. As a team, the Dodgers’ active roster has a collective career batting average of .270 and wOBA of .353 against Williams. Freddie Freeman, for one, is 5-for-13 with a double in his career against Williams. The Dodgers are 5-2 in their last seven games on a Monday.
