Betting on the Los Angeles Dodgers (-195)
The ever-dependable Tony Gonsolin will be pitching for the Dodgers in this series-opener against Cincy. Gonsolin was solid in his last start, even though he and manager Dave Roberts both said he was not up to par. Nevertheless, Gonsolin allowed just an earned run on three hits with two strikeouts and two walks given up in 6.0 innings of a 9-3 win over the Washington Nationals at home last week.
Although he’s pitching on the road this Tuesday, Gonsolin should still shine based on his 1-1 record and 1.35 ERA after four starts away from Dodger Stadium, so far this season. Meanwhile, JD Martinez and Freddie Freeman have been smoking at the plate of late, as they are hitting .358 and .368 in the last 15 days, respectively, with a combined 10 home runs and 25 RBI in that stretch.
Starting pitcher: Tony Gonsolin (3-1, 1.77 ERA)
Betting on the Cincinnati Reds (+165)
The Reds will count on Luke Weaver to match – if not better – Gonsolin. Weaver is coming off a not-so-good performance in a 5-4 win over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park last Wednesday in which he allowed three earned runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings,
He had five strikeouts, though, and did not give up a walk. Weaver has also been gradually lowering his ERA with each start he’s been making. He started May with a 7.88 ERA but finished that month with a 5.36 ERA. Over his last three starts, he’s gone 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA. Jonathan India could see some success with his bat against Gonsolin, as he has a career 2-for-4 hitter against Gonsolin.
