Betting on the Washington Nationals (+245)
The search for his first win of the month continues for Patrick Corbin. The veteran lefty is 0-3 with a 4.76 ERA in his four starts this June. Prior to that, however, the Nationals won in four straight Corbin starts. In his most recent outing, Corbin gave up four earned runs on 11 hits with two walks issued and three strikeouts in six innings of a 4-2 home loss to the Miami Marlins last Sunday.
Although he has been shaky of late, Corbin can count on Washington’s offense to step up. Lane Thomas has been performing well at the plate over the past several games, hitting home runs and driving runs on a consistent basis. Thomas is also 1-for-2 with a home run in his career against Joe Musgrove. That’s a very small sample size, but it still is a positive sign for Washington’s run-scoring potential.
Starting pitcher: Patrick Corbin (4-8, 4.89 ERA)
Betting on the San Diego Padres (-295)
San Diego can have all the confidence in the world going into this game because the Padres will have Musgrove toeing the rubber. Musgrove has been so reliable of late for the Padres of late. They have won in three of his last four starts, all this month of June. During those four games, Musgrove allowed just six earned runs on 20 hits in 23.0 total innings of action on the mound.
Dating back to last month, the Padres are actually 4-1 in Musgrove’s last five starts in which he posted a 4-0 record and 2.15 ERA. The pair of Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. will be behind Musgrove, and don’t be surprised if those two rakes. Machado is 7-for-18 lifetime against Corbin, while Tatis is 4-for-7 in the same matchup.
Starting pitcher: Joe Musgrove (5-2, 4.22 ERA)
El Jefe’s Prediction on Washington Nationals vs San Diego Padres
The Padres ride Musgrove’s solid night and chase Corbin for enough runs to get a win.
