Betting on the Washington Nationals (+165)
MacKenzie Gore gets the ball this Sunday for the finale of this series. It is an opportunity for Gore to right the ship, as he had a forgettable performance in his last start, allowing five earned runs on nine hits in 6.0 innings of a 9-3 home loss to the St. Louis Cardinals last Tuesday.
However, he was fantastic in start prior to that against a heavy-hitting team, as he limited the Houston Astros to zero runs on just four hits allowed in 5.2 innings of a 4-1 victory on the road on June 15. Lane Thomas and the Nats’ bats will look to back up Gore, who is getting just 3.57 runs in support per nine innings on the mound. Gore leads all qualified Washington starters with an impressive average of 10.6 strikeouts per nine innings.

Betting on the San Diego Padres (-195)
Seth Lugo will be on the mound for the Padres in this matchup. This will just be the 33-year-old right-hander’s second appearance this month, with his first ending in a 4-3 loss on the road to the San Francisco Giants on the road last Tuesday.
However, he allowed just an earned run on three hits with five strikeouts across five innings in that contest. Lugo is 2-1 with a 4.82 ERA in four starts at home so far in the 2023 MLB regular season. After getting shut out by the Nationals, the Padres’ offense must be itching to get its rhythm back. The current roster of the Padres has a collective lifetime .368 batting average against Gore, including Juan Soto, who is 2-for-3 in that matchup. Soto has hit .377 in his last 14 games.
