Betting on the Houston Astros (+115)
The Astros are seething in anger over the manner in which they lost to Los Angeles Sunday to the tune of an 8-7 score. They can vent all their frustrations from that defeat on this series-finale contest, as Houston sends Hunter Brown to the hill. Brown is also eager to have another start in hopes of getting rid of the bad taste of his last outing in his mouth.
In his most recent appearance, Brown allowed six earned runs on seven hits (including two home runs) in 5.2 innings of action in an 11-1 home loss to the New York Mets last Monday. Brown appears to be more comfortable pitching on the road, though. He has a 4-1 record with a 3.46 ERA in seven starts away from home so far in the 2023 MLB regular season. The Astros are 26-9 in their last 35 games on a Sunday. They are also 48-18 in the last 66 Game 3s of a series.
Starting pitcher: Hunter Brown (6-4, 3.78 ERA)
Betting on the Los Angeles Dodgers (-135)
Like Brown, Gonsolin is also coming off a terrible start. He surrendered seven earned runs on six hits in 5.2 innings of action during a 7-3 loss to the San Francisco Giants on June 18. Despite that loss, Gonsolin is still an overall solid pitcher this season, to date. He has not allowed more than three earned runs in all but one start this year.
He is also 3-1 with a 3.62 ERA in five starts at Dodger Stadium, so far this season. Gonsolin also has an impressive .194 BABIP, which is going to be hard to sustain for him for an extended time, but his bad start against the Giants could also mean he’s due for a much more stellar outing this Sunday. Dodgers catcher Will Smith has slashed .270/.438/.459 in his last 11 games, with two home runs and seven RBI.
Starting pitcher: Tony Gonsolin (4-2, 2.92 ERA)
El Jefe’s Prediction on Houston Astros vs Los Angeles Dodgers
Gonsolin returns to form and wins a duel against Brown to lead the Dodgers to a sweep of the Astros.
Prediction:
The Dodgers win, 5-4.
