Emmett is looking for an upset victory in this matchup. Emmett has already seen action this year, but that was a submission loss at the hands of Yair Rodriguez in a title fight last February at UFC 284. Prior to that, Emmett had a five-fight win streak going for him. He has not lost back-to-back fights in his pro-MMA career.
Despite the loss to Rodriguez, Emmett should still be viewed as a huge threat to the much younger Topuria. Emmett is well-experienced and is a very durable warrior inside the Octagon. Say what you want to say abiout Topuria, but the man is still undefeated in his pro career. The last time he stepped inside the Octagon, Topuria pulled off an arm triangle submission win against Bruce Mitchell last December at UFC 282. While it was just his only submission win in the UFC so far, it is his eighth overall.
Three of his five wins in the UFC, meanwhile, have been knockouts. Emmett will find it tough to send Topuria to the ground, as the latter has an excellent 92 percent success rate against takedown attempts. Conversely, he is averaging 2.45 takedowns per 15 minutes — much better than Emmett’s 1.07 average.
