Onama will be thirsty for a win in this fight, as it has been a while since the last time he won. In his most recent bout, Onama suffered a majority decision loss at the hands of Nate Landwehr at UFC Fight Night: Vera vs. Cruz in August of 2022. He is now 2-2 since he entered the UFC. One thing about Onaman is that both his losses so far in his MMA career came via decisions.
He has neither been knocked out nor submitted. Conversely, the 29-year-old Ugandan has a 6-0 knockout record and a 4-0 submission slate. Onama is also much more familiar with the atmosphere in the UFC as a fighter than Santos, who has only fought once so far inside the Octagon.
Betting on Gabriel Santos (-230 on DraftKings)
- Odds: -230
- Record: 10-1-0
- Age: 26
- Height: 5′ 9″

Santos lost in his UFC debut last March but he certainly turned some heads with his performance in his split decision defeat at the hands of Lerone Murphy. In that fight, Santos had five takedowns to just one by Murphy. However, Santos was outlanded by a sizable margin by Murphy, 93-69.
Still, the fact that he recorded that many successful takedowns in his UFC debut showed that Santos is excellent at finding and shooting for gaps. It’s also worth mentioning that Santos took that fight on days’ notice as a late replacement for Nathaniel Wood. He would have had a much better performance and perhaps remained undefeated if he had a longer preparation, which he has now for the upcoming fight against Onama.
El Jefe’s Prediction on David Onama vs Gabriel Santos
Onama capitalizes on his four-inch reach advantage and quickness to nail Santos with clean strikes and combinations, but Santos will have multiple takedowns in this fight as well. Obama will win a close one in the scorecards.
Prediction:
Onama wins via split decision.
