Betting on Max Griffin (+195 on DraftKings)

  • Odds: +165

At 37 years old, Griffin must know that his window for a title shot in the UFC is probably closing. But he can turn lots of heads with a win this coming Saturday. Griffin has momentum going for him. He won his most recent fight, edging Tim Means via split decision in last October’s UFC Fight Night: Kattar vs. Allen.

Griffin has won four of his last five fights, two via knockouts. Griffin has a total of nine TKO wins and is averaging 4.23 significant strikes per minute while also owning a 57 percent success rate against strikes. Although he’s not known to be much of a ground specialist, Griffin has a 2-0 submission record. He had three takedowns in his win against Means.

Betting on Michael Morales (-230 on DraftKings)

Morales is a feared fighter for a reason – or two. For one, he is sporting an immaculate record, having victimized 14 fighters and absorbing zero losses so far in his MMA career. Of his wins, 11 were via knockouts, including his last one when he demolished Adam Fugitt in three rounds during a meeting in July 2022 at UFC 277: Peña vs. Nunes 2.

Morales landed 83 strikes in that game to just 64 by Fugitt. He also has a three-inch reach advantage over Griffin. With his length and power, Griffin will have to be very wary when looking to engage the Ecuadorian standing up. Also take not that four of Morales’ last five wins were knockouts. His only submission win was a triangle choke against Gregoris Cisnero in 2019.

El Jefe’s Prediction on Max Griffin vs Michael Morales

Griffin is the much older fighter in this matchup and he is going to be taking on a thirsty and powerful banger in Morales. But Griffin also has a big advantage over Morales in terms of fighting in the UFC. That will serve him well this weekend.

Prediction:

Griffin wins via knockout.
