Betting on the San Diego Padres (-165)
The Padres’ slide continues, as they are now on a three-game losing skid after suffering a 9-4 loss to Pittsburgh in the series opener Tuesday night. San Diego, however, has not lost four games in a row since mid-May, so that’s a good telling sign for them heading into Game 2 of the series versus the Pirates.
Stepping on the mound for the Padres this Wednesday is Blake Snell, who has been amazing over the last several starts. With him comes the confidence of San Diego that its slump will end later tonight. Snell is 3-0 with a 0.29 ERA and a .126 opponents’ batting average over his last five starts. He is also entering Wednesday’s game with a 1-2 record and a 2.68 ERA in eight road starts this season.
Starting pitcher: Blake Snell (4-6, 3.22 ERA)
Betting on the Pittsburgh Pirates (+140)
The Pirates were able to prevent a three-game losing skid with that aforementioned victory over San Diego. That also ended Pittsburgh’s three-game home losing streak. Having regained momentum, the Pirates will give the ball to Mitch Keller this Wednesday. Keller had a no-decision in his last start which was during a 6-4 victory on the road over the Miami Marlins last Thursday.
In that game, he allowed just an earned run on five hits with five strikeouts in seven innings. He’s pitched for at least 5.0 innings in four starts so far this June while coming up with a 4.07 ERA in those contests. Keller should be more comfortable this time around, as he’s back home. He is 4-1 with a 2.78 ERA and a .195 opponents’ batting average in seven home starts this season, including a complete game.
Starting pitcher: Mitch Keller (8-3, 3.45 ERA)
El Jefe’s Prediction on San Diego Padres vs Pittsburgh Pirates
Blake Snell has been sensational of late, as mentioned earlier. Until he slows down, it seems like a good idea to continue riding the Padres when he’s on mound duty.
Prediction:
The Padres win, 4-2.
