Betting on the New York Mets (+145)
The Mets are closing out the first half of the 2023 MLB regular season on a pretty strong note, but they can gather even more momentum with a win against the red-hot Padres to open a new series this Friday. On the mound for the Mets for this matchup is David Peterson, who is coming off a decent performance in an 8-4 victory over the San Francisco Giants at home last Sunday.
Peterson allowed just an earned run on three hits in four innings in that contest. Peterson’s ERA is an eyesore, but he’s actually gradually lowered that over his last few starts as he continues to show improvement. His ERA was as high as 8.08 last May but is now at 6.61 after two starts. Meanwhile, the Mets can stay hot on offense when they face off against Snell. Blake Snell will look to rescue the Padres following a crushing 7-3 loss to the Mets Friday night. The former Cy Young Award winner can appear to be just the right man to do the job on the mound for the Padres, who still have looked generally well of late, having won three of their last four games. Snell’s last appearance resulted in a 10-3 win for the Padres against the Los Angels Angels at home last Monday during which he pitched five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. Behind Snell is the Padres’ offense that is providing him with 4.50 runs per nine innings. Juan Soto is leading the Padres this season with a .915 OPS while Fernando Tatis Jr. is slashing .287/.346/.528 while also leading San Diego with 16 home runs.
