In the midst of a rather complicated season, Corinthians seems to be getting a second chance to get back on its feet with its participation in the playoffs.
Thanks to a resounding victory in the final match of the group stage of the Libertadores, Vanderlei Luxemburgo’s team managed to secure a spot as the third-placed team, ahead of Liverpool from Montevideo, the only team it was able to defeat in that round.
In fact, six out of the seven goals scored by Corinthian’s attack were against the Uruguayan team. This performance is also reflected in the Brasileirao, where it currently sits at 14th place in the standings. Its 12 goals scored are the fourth-lowest amount in the league.
Not even starting the knockout stage at home is a good sign for this team. In the group stage, it lost two out of three matches, while in the local championship, it has only managed to achieve two victories in six matches played and has scored only seven goals.
