Betting on the San Diego Padres (-115)
Snell has been sensational on the mound this July. In three starts so far this month, the former Cy Young award winner has not allowed an earned run and only gave up 11 hits with 25 strikeouts across 16.0 innings of action. Walks are a little bit of an issue of late for Snell, but it hasn’t resulted in any disaster for him or the Padres as a whole.
While he is only 1-3 in 10 starts away from Petco Park this season, Snell has a 2.47 ERA in those outings. He is looking fine heading into this matchup against the Blue Jays. Then there’s the Padres’ offense which can rely on Juan Soto to make things happen at the plate, especially since he is 2-for-5 all-time against Blue Jays pitcher Chris Bassitt. That’s a small sample size, but Soto’s been pretty effective of late with his bat.
Starting pitcher: Blake Snell (6-7, 2.71 ERA)
Betting on the Toronto Blue Jays (-105)
Bassitt is also keying success for the Blue Jays over his last four starts, during which Toronto has gone 4-0. In his most recent start, Bassitt surrendered two earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts in 6.0 innings of a 5-2 victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Bassitt is unsurprisingly a better pitcher when he’s at home than when on the road. He is 5-1 with a 2.47 ERA with an opponents’ batting average of just .165 in nine starts in Toronto so far this season.
Whit Merrifield can be of big help on offense for Toronto, as usual. He and George Springer have great career numbers against Snell. Merrifield is 5-for-9 with a home run versus Snell, while Springer is 5-for-18 with a home run and three RBIs in the same matchup.
Starting pitcher: Chris Bassitt (9-5, 4.12 ERA)

Snell and Bassitt are both pitching well of late, but the former has looked more impressive. His fingerprints are shown clearer in the wins of San Diego in his last few starts than Bassitt’s are on Toronto’s win streak with him on the mound. Taking the Padres to win this game.
