Joe Musgrove has got the hot hand for the Padres. In his most recent start, Musgrove was able to collect yet another win this month. After allowing just an earned run on five hits and striking out seven batters in 6.0 innings of San Diego’s 9-1 win against the Toronto Blue Jays on the road last Tuesday, Musgrove’s July numbers have improved to 3-0 and 0.95 ERA.
Dating back to June, Musgrove has gone 4-0 with a 1.41 ERA in his last four starts and he’s also not allowed more than two earned runs in seven of his last eight mound appearances.

For the series finale versus the Padres, Detroit is handing the ball to Tarik Skubal. The 26-year-old southpaw is coming off a brutal start last Tuesday in which he was tagged for seven earned runs on eight hits in 4.0 innings of Detroit’s 11-10 road loss to the Kansas City Royals.
The hope for the Tigers is that it’s nothing but a mere aberration for Skubal, who allowed zero earned runs on two hits in his two other starts (covering 8.0 total innings) this season combined. He should feel confident facing San Diego, given the fact that the current Padres roster only has a. 095 batting average (21 at-bats) against him all-time.
