Betting on the Los Angeles Dodgers (+105)
The Dodgers will try to build on the momentum of their thrilling 6-4 win on Monday in the series opener against the Orioles. For the second game of this series, they will hand the ball to Michael Grove, who is coming off his first win of the season despite a shaky performance. Grove allowed four earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts in a 10-5 home win against the Los Angeles Angels on July 8.
Thanks to the Dodgers’ offense, Grove avoided a loss and picked up a pitching victory. On the season, Grove is getting 4.37 runs from Los Angeles per nine innings. After hitting a grand slam in the series opener, utility man Chris Taylor might have another big game in him. He is 3-for-8 with a homer and a double since the start of the season’s second half.
Starting pitcher: Michael Grove (1-2, 6.89 ERA)
Betting on the Baltimore Orioles (-125)
The Orioles will look to recapture their form. They swept the Miami Marlins in a three-game series right out of the game after the MLB All-Star break and before they got tripped up by the Dodgers on Monday. Getting the nod to start this Tuesday for the Orioles is Tyler Wells, who’s been among the most dependable members of Baltimore’s pitching staff this season.
In his last start, he allowed only two earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts in 6.0 innings of a 6-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins on the road on July 8. Wells has pitched for at least 5.0 innings in his eight starts and allowed no more than two earned runs in any of those outings. He is also 4-3 with a 2.57 ERA at Camden Yards this season. Conversely, Grove is only 0-1 with a dizzying 11.15 ERA in four road appearances this year. That should have Baltimore hitters salivating.
Starting pitcher: Tyler Wells (7-4, 3.18 ERA)
El Jefe’s Prediction on Los Angeles Dodgers vs Baltimore Orioles
The consistency over Well’s last several starts is hard to ignore. Taking the Orioles to win this game by a close margin.
Prediction:
The Orioles win, 5-3.
