Betting on the San Diego Padres (-210)
The Padres will look to stay hot. They are on a three-game win streak and have won four of their last six games. San Diego’s confidence must be brimming right now, considering that they just swept American League West division leaders Texas Rangers at home, concluding in a 5-3 victory on Sunday.
On the mound for the Padres later tonight will be Seth Lugo, who picked up a loss despite a decent performance in his last start. Against the Pittsburgh Pirates last Wednesday, Lugo surrendered only two earned runs on three hits with eight strikeouts in 7.0 innings of a 3-2 loss at home. Lugo has a 1-1 record but a 2.97 ERA in his last five starts. The 33-year-old Lugo tamed Colorado in a start last April, holding the Rockies down to just a run on four hits in seven innings of a 3-1 home win.
Starting pitcher: Seth Lugo (4-5, 3.62 ERA)
Betting on the Colorado Rockies (+180)
The Rockies stopped the bleeding on Sunday, as they pulled off a 2-0 win over the Oakland Athletics at home to snap a four-game losing skid and prevent an embarrassing sweep. Colorado is hoping that Austin Gomber will come up with a great performance against the Padres this time around. Gomber has failed to get a win in his first two starts this season versus San Diego, which already tagged him for 10 runs on 15 hits in nine innings this season, thus far.
Gomber looked good in his most recent start, though, allowing zero runs on six hits with four strikeouts in six innings in a game against the Washington Nationals last Tuesday, albeit one that ended in a 6-5 Rockies loss.
Elias Diaz can turn up the heat at the plate for the Rockies, as he leads the team with a .297 batting average in home games this season to go with seven home runs and 30 RBIs at Coors Field.
Starting pitcher: Austin Gomber (8-8, 5.83 ERA)
El Jefe’s Prediction on San Diego Padres vs Colorado Rockies
The Padres’ documented success this season against Gomber and their current surge are good reasons to expect a big win tonight for San Diego. Taking the Padres to extend their win streak at the expense of Colorado.
Prediction:
The Padres win, 6-2.
