Betting on the Cincinnati Reds (+170)
Weaver isn’t having a great month of July, as he has a dizzying 8.22 ERA in four starts this month. However, he’s also 1-0, avoiding a loss this July thus far despite his propensity for giving up bunches of runs, thanks to the Reds’ high-scoring offense. In fact, the Reds have gone 9-1 in their last 10 starts even though he’s posted 8.79 ERA in that stretch.
On the season, Weaver is getting 5.74 runs per nine innings behind him from Cincinnati’s offense. The Reds must be licking their chops over the prospect of facing Emmet Sheehan, who just got lit up on the mound in his last start and is someone who’s surrendered 17 runs in three starts this July.
Starting pitcher: Luke Weaver (2-2, 7.20 ERA)
Betting on the Los Angeles Dodgers (-200)
As mentioned earlier, Sheehan has been roughed up over his last few games. So far this month of July, Sheehan is 1-1 with a 12.41 ERA. It’s understandably hard to build trust in the Dodgers’ chances to win whenever Sheehan is on the mound, but there’s always hope for Los Angeles because of its offense.
As a team, current Dodgers players have a batting average of .283 against Weaver. Jason Heyward is 6-for-16 against Weaver, while JD Martinez is 2-for-3 with both hits being home runs. Max Muncy, meanwhile, seems like he’s got a great read of Weaver’s stuff as he is 5-for-15 with two doubles all-time against Weaver.
Starting pitcher: Emmet Sheehan (3-1, 6.75 ERA)
El Jefe’s Prediction on Cincinnati Reds vs Los Angeles Dodgers
This could turn out to be a high-scoring game, and if that’s the case, I’m taking the red-hot Reds offense to win a slugfest.
Prediction:
The Reds win, 7-5.
