Betting on the Cincinnati Reds (+140)
The Reds will send Graham Ashcraft to the mound with the hopes that he can help them rebound from a 3-2 loss on Saturday to the Dodgers. Ashcraft has been dishing out decent performances this July, and he’ll have the chance to close the month out with another. In four July starts, Ashcraft has gone 2-1 with a 2.31 ERA. He has gradually lowered his season ERA over his last five starts, dating back to June.
The Reds have won three times in that stretch.None of the Reds have experience batting against Michael Grove in the majors, but Cincy must still be confident in its offense that features the likes of Matt McLain and Spencer Steer. McLain has hit .340 with three home runs and seven RBIs in his last 13 games, while Spencer Steer has batted .283 with a homer and six RBIs in his last 12.
Starting pitcher: Graham Ashcraft (5-7, 5.64 ERA)
Betting on the Los Angeles Dodgers (-170)
Coming off their first win in three games, the Dodgers will turn to Grove to handle the starting duties on the mound. Grove picked up a no-decision in his last start, allowing two earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts in 4.2 innings of a 6-3 home loss to the Toronto Blue Jays last Monday. This month, Grove is 2-0 with a 3.66 ERA, and just like Ashcraft, he’s lowered his ERA in each of his last handful of starts. (Grove started July with a 7.02 ERA.)
On the other side of the ball, the Dodgers will look to punish Ashcraft – again. It can be remembered that Los Angeles scored three runs on three hits in 2.2 innings off of Ashcraft in a 6-0 victory on June 7. Freddie Freeman has hit .365 with four home runs and 10 RBIs in his last 13 games.
