Spence added the WBA belt to his collection in his most recent fight when he manhandled Yordenis Ugas in a title fight in April of 2022. The fight was stopped in the 10th round due to Ugas’ swollen eye, a product of absolute domination by Spence. That fight has turned any remaining doubters at that time into believers of Spence, who has 22 wins by way of knockouts.
Crawford is the slight favorite in this matchup, but it’s worth noting that between the two fighters, it’s Spence who has spent his entire career thus far fighting in the welterweight division. Spence has been a welterweight champion ever since he knocked out Kell Brook in the 11th round of an IBF title fight way back in 2017. The deeper this fight gets, the more favored Spence could look to win, especially if he finds success in applying a physical approach to his tactic in the same manner he did against Ugas.
Betting on Terence Crawford (Odds on DraftKings)
- Odds: -150
- Fights: 39
- Victories: 39
- Victories by KO: 30
- Defeats: 0
- Draws: 0
Crawford should be able to handle himself against the “bigger” Spence. Many believe that’s what is going to happen on Saturday, hence his favorite label. In his most recent fight, Crawford successfully defended his WBO belt by knocking out David Avanesyan in the sixth round last December.
The switch-hitting Crawford projects to be a difficult puzzle to solve for Spence. His ability to find ways to crack defenses with his boxing IQ alone is formidable enough, but there’s also the power that he has clearly carried with him through the ranks. He has scored a knockout in each of his last 10 fights. The last time someone went the distance with him was in 2016 when he scored a unanimous decision over Viktor Postol. In other words, when he’s not stopping foes, Crawford is scoring comfortable decision victories. It’s just too easy for him.
El Jefe’s Prediction on Errol Spence Jr vs Terence Crawford
This will be a close fight that will go to the scorecards. Each fighter will have their moments and each round will have varying degrees of activities, but it’s going to be Crawford who will remain undefeated when it’s all said and done inside the ring.
