Miami GP director Tom Garfinkel wants the spectators of that race, which will make its debut on the Formula 1 calendar this season, to see it as something different.
The Miami GP race will be held for the first time on Sunday, May 8. This Grand Prix signed an initial contract with Formula 1 for 10 years and the organizers expect it to exceed expectations.
American businessman Garfinkel, who is also CEO of the NFL ‘s Miami Dolphins and the Hard Rock Stadium, talked about what they want to convey to the attendees of this GP in Miami through a promotional video for the event:
“To bring the glamour and elegance of Formula 1 and the technology of F1 racing to a dynamic, growing city like Miami right now is fantastic.”
The intention is for fans to enjoy the experience and find it exciting and different from the rest of the races on the F1 calendar: “The idea was how do you create a race for people that are used to going to races to think ‘this is different, this is fun, this is exciting’. I think, first of all, it’s about Miami.”
Garfinkel went on to highlight the virtues of the city, “Miami Gardens, and really the whole south of Florida, it’s become a curator of culture when you talk about fashion and art, music, food and sports. It’s a very attractive place.”
In the video he also talked about the technology and engineering that F1 will present at the Miami GP: “I think from a racing standpoint, we’re introducing the best racing in the world and its technology, best engineering, the best cars and the best drivers.”
Tickets were in high demand and sold out within 40 minutes of going on sale, despite the high prices.
The Miami GP Circuit
The urban circuit will have a length of 5.41 kilometers and 57 laps will be run. It has a total of 19 corners, three long straights and the potential for up to three DRS zones, and drivers are expected to be able to reach top speeds of 320 km/h (200 mph).
The Miami GP will be the fifth date on the calendar and the first of two to be held in the United States in 2022. After May 8, fans will have to wait until October 23, when the Austin GP takes place.
