Prior to the start of MLB action on Friday, April 29, the league announced suspensions for Nolan Arenado and Genesis Cabrera for their actions during Wednesday’s brawl between the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets.
Arenado received a two-game suspension, which is currently under appeal, so the stellar third baseman will be able to keep active before the final verdict is known. The Dominican reliever has already served the only suspension he received.
“I don’t think it needs to be two games.” said the former Colorado Rockies star after hearing the news, as reported by Daniel Guerrero of St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
The nine-time All Star added bluntly, “I don’t think it has to be a suspension. Maybe a fine, but not a suspension.”
On the other hand, no Mets players were penalized, although Yoan Lopez and Taijuan Walker will have to pay a financial penalty for their participation in the incident that quickly went viral on social networks.
Nolan Arenado’s incident against the Mets
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Arenado reacted badly to a Yoan Lopez pitch that almost hit him in the face.
This was a dramatic moment between two teams that began the 2022 Major League Baseball season with serious aspirations of reaching the World Series.
In the end, San Luis ended up winning the game by a score of ten runs to five.
Nolan Arenado’s Numbers with the Cardinals
After 176 games in a St. Louis Cardinals uniform, Arenado has a .268 average and .327 OBP, with 39 home runs and 122 runs batted in. In addition, he has 178 hits, 83 of which are extra-base hits.
Aside from his tremendous ability with the bat, we are talking about one of the best third base defenders in MLB in the last decade.
