Minnesota Twins starter Chris Paddack‘s season ended early and abruptly after he was due to undergo his second Tommy John operation on his right elbow.

As reported by The Athletic journalist, Dan Hayes, the right-hander underwent the operation on Wednesday, from which he came out successfully and which will keep him out of action for the remainder of the 2022 season.

This is the second time in his major league career that Chris Paddack has had a ligament reconstruction in his right elbow. As he also had to have it done in 2016, when he was a minor league prospect for the San Diego Padres.

“We need the best possible version of him, and the best possible version of Chris Paddack is to get himself healthy and to have this procedure and rehab himself and get back to full strength. He’s an ultra-talented young guy with a great work ethic, and I think he has an incredibly bright future with us.”

In general, the recovery time for this operation is 10 to 12 months, so it is expected that the team will be able to count on Paddack again in the middle of next season.

Chris Paddack and His Trade to the Twins

During the preseason, Chris Paddack’s name was one of the strongest to reinforce several rotations within the Major Leagues. This despite his inconsistency after three seasons with San Diego.

However, the Minnesota Twins decided to bet on him in a change that had closer Taylor Rodgers as the main piece, who ended up with the Padres.

Paddack came to Minnesota to complete a rotation that also received Sonny Gray, but was ultimately unable to fulfill his mission due to the injury that took him off the mounds on May 8.

Altogether, he was only able to start five commitments in which, despite leaving a 1-2 record and an ERA of 4.03, he had great control in his shipments by not conceding home runs and granting two walks with 20 strikeouts after 22.1 innings of work.
