The new member of the MLB Hall of Fame, David Ortiz , launched strong comments about the current tense relationship between the Boston Red Sox and Xander Bogaerts .

“It would be stupid to let a guy like that go, to be honest with you,” the Dominican said of Bogaerts’ situation in Boston, according to a report by journalist Chris Cotillo of MassLive.

“Big Papi” added forcefully:

“I played with Bogey for a long time and Bogaerts is the perfect player for any organization. He will represent this organization on and off the field. So that conversation needs to take place at any time.”

These statements by Ortiz come after both parties were unable to agree on a new contract, prior to the start of the 2022 Major League season. Now, there’s even been talk that the Alex Cora-led franchise is looking at giving Trevor Story shortstop full-time.

Let’s keep in mind that David Ortiz and Xander Bogaerts were teammates on the Red Sox for four seasons. In fact, they were instrumental in helping the franchise win the 2013 World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals.

In the 2022 MLB season, the Aruban-born player has a .325 average and a .385 OBP, with 4 home runs and 17 RBI.
