New York Mets infielder Eduardo Escobar had a memorable batting performance on Monday, June 6, against the San Diego Padres.

The Venezuelan became just the second player to hit the cycle during the 2022 Major League season. In his case, his performance was key for the Mets to win with a score of 11 runs to 5. He went 4-5, with 6 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

Escobar’s hits came in the first innings (hit), fourth (double), eighth (home run) and ninth (triple). In fact, the last connection was made in the direction of right field and had the collaboration of Nomar Mazara’s defensive problems.

In this way, the veteran becomes the first Mets player to hit for the cycle in the regular round of the MLB, since Scott Hairston in the 2012 campaign.

Despite this impressive performance, it cannot be forgotten that Escobar has not been able to live up to expectations in the team that makes life at Citi Field, after signing a two-year, $20 million deal.

The New York team began the day on Tuesday, June 7, in the first position of the Eastern Division of the National League, with a record of 38 wins and 19 losses. On the Padres’ side, they are in second place in the Western Division with a 33-22 record.

Eduardo Escobar Numbers in the 2022 MLB Season

Eduardo Escobar was called to the 2021 MLB All-Star Game

After 53 appearances in the regular round of the 2022 Major League campaign, Eduardo Escobar has an average of .241 and an OBP of .311, with 5 home runs and 24 RBI.

Not brilliant numbers for a player who received his first call-up to the MLB All-Star Game last season, when he was part of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

If Escobar keeps up the momentum with the bat, the Mets will significantly increase their chances of winning the division pennant and playing in the World Series for the first time since the 2015 edition, when they fell to the Kansas City Royals led by Salvador Pérez.
