Andy Ruiz has reportedly made the decision to change his trainer, so he would no longer be in charge of Eddy Reynoso, who is Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez trainer.
Mexican boxer Saúl “Canelo” Alvarez has separated from Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar de la Hoya’s promotional firm, in November 2020. Since then, he put together his own team with his trainer Eddy Reynoso and called it Canelo Team. Once established, they offered services for boxers who were beginning to emerge in different categories, among them the “Destroyer”, Andy Ruiz, and Ryan García.
A few months ago, Ryan García left the Canelo Team and joined Golden Boy Promotions. The fighter implied that the reason that led him to change his trainer was the lack of time and disposition of his team, since they were only focused on preparing Canelo Álvarez.
García commented in an interview with ESPN on the reasons behind his decision:
He didn’t have the time to train me anymore, and it wasn’t working. It had been two weeks in camp and I hadn’t seen him (Eddy Reynoso), so I said it’s time for a change.
Frank Sánchez also separated from the tapatío’s team. It now appears that Andy Ruiz has made the same decision as García and Sánchez and will be preparing away from what has been considered the best Mexican pound-for-pound fighter today.
ESPN’s Mike Coppinger reported that there is a possibility that Ruiz has left the Canelo Team to join trainer Rafael Osuna.
Andy Ruiz Separates from Canelo Team
A few months ago, the heavyweight boxer silenced rumors that he was leaving Álvarez’s team by saying in an interview with ESNEWS on Youtube that he already had his own gym but was still training with Eddy Reynoso.
All the race that thinks I’m not with the Eddy, we are. I wanted to have my gym all to myself, to be focused on everything. In two more weeks I will be back with Eddy Reynoso already training.
Those rumors came out since he had been seen training with Osuna.
Next September 4, Andy Ruiz will step into the ring after 15 months (he hasn’t fought since May 2021) to face Luis Ortiz, but according to Coppinger, his trainer will be Rafael Osuna.
“Ruiz is now training with Alfredo Osuna after he parted ways with Eddy Reynoso,” Coppinger said.
The Ruiz vs Ortiz fight was scheduled for August 13, but now it has been revealed that it will be on September 4 in Los Angeles, California, at the Crypto.com Arena.
