As is customary every Monday of every week, the winners of the Major League Baseball Player of the Week award were announced, being on this occasion the most outstanding names in the period between June 20 and June 26, 2022.
As announced by the league through its social networks, the winner in the American League was Tampa Bay Rays infielder Isaac Paredes, while in the National League the winner was Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman.
MLB Player of the Week: American League – Isaac Paredes
In the midst of an injury emergency, Isaac Paredes arrived to rescue the Rays, who were in a tailspin after a very difficult couple of weeks without many important players.
The 23-year-old Mexican native went 19-11 with two doubles, nine RBIs and an incredible 2.093 OPS in five games last week. He also hit five homers, including the seventh three-homer game in the organization’s history, when he hit a trio of home runs Tuesday against the New York Yankees.
Paredes is also the second member of the Rays to be the American League Player of the Week this year, joining Dominican Manuel Margot.
MLB Player of the Week: National League – Freddie Freeman
In the absence of Mookie Betts, the Dodgers needed an offensive figure to guide them in their quest to maintain the lead in the Nationals’ West Division, a responsibility that Freddie Freeman has placed on his shoulders.
The starter continues his good season in Los Angeles and last week he showed it with another great performance by hitting 25-11 (.440) with two home runs, a triple, two doubles, 11 runs batted in and an OPS of 1.373 in six games.
Freeman is a regular winner of this award, as this is the sixth time in his prestigious career that he has been named Nationals Player of the Week.
