The war between the ATP’s top tennis players is gearing up for the Wimbledon quarterfinals following the 100th anniversary celebration of Centre Court. Here are the predictions for this important stage of the tournament.
Wimbledon 2022 Predictions: ATP Quarterfinals
Novak Djokovic vs. Jannik Sinner
Djokovic (Serbian) is one of the most titled players at Wimbledon and hopes to be crowned once again. He is currently ranked No. 3 and will face Jannik Sinner, ranked No. 13. Sinner has had an amazing run in the competition, despite the fact that the Serb is a clear favorite due to his ease of winning tournaments.
In the first round, he beat Wawrinka in 4 sets, in the third round, he beat John Isner and in the fourth round, he beat Carlos Alcaraz. In contrast, Djokovic has not faced the highest seeds in the tournament, so he may be more rested. However, it is clear that Sinner will put up a fight and is our favorite for this match.
David Goffin vs. Cameron Norrie
The second quarterfinal match will be played between David Goffin and Cameron Norrie (Australian). Belgian Goffin beat Frances Tiafoe in five thrilling sets a day ago. On the other hand, Norrie has had straight set matches without as much effort. Therefore, the Australian will most likely outperform the Belgian.
Cristian Garin vs. Nick Kyrgios
The third match will be played by Chilean Cristian Garin and Australian Nick Kyrgios. Garin just beat Kyrgios’ compatriot, Alex de Miñaur, in five sets after 4 hours and 34 minutes. About to face him is Kyrgios, the talented player who in the first and fourth rounds had five-set matches. In addition, in the third round he beat Tsitsipas, one of the favorites, in four sets.
Garin must be inventive in order to defeat Kyrgios. The Australian is known to play similar to Monfils, i.e. with a lot of jumps, tricks and weird moves. Therefore, it is important to keep a cool head and an open mind. Only then, he will be able to surpass the talented Australian.
Taylor Fritz vs. Rafael Nadal
Finally, this could be the most anticipated quarterfinal match, along with Djokovic’s. The American Taylor Fritz will face the man with the most Grand Slam titles in history: the imposing Rafael Nadal.
Fritz has had a relatively quiet tournament, as he has not dropped a single set so far. On the other hand, Nadal has won the third and fourth round matches in straight sets against younger players. It will be difficult for Fritz to overcome a tenacious and relentless Rafael Nadal. In this case, to beat him, he will need a lot of angled shots and avoid long points.
