Facts About the 2022 MLB All-Star Game
When and where will the 2022 MLB All-Star Game be played?
The game will be played next Tuesday, July 19, at 8:00 PM E.T., at Dodger Stadium, home of the Los Angeles Dodgers, for the first time in 42 years.
While the primary events are the Home Run Derby on Monday 18 and the duel on Tuesday, there will also be a celebrity game and a Future Baseball Stars game on Saturday 16.
2022 MLB All-Star Game: Overview
After several modifications in recent seasons, the All-Star Game remains an exhibition game in which the stars of the American League and the National League will face each other.
However, in the new Collective Bargaining Agreement signed this season, an agreement was reached for the game to be defined with a Home Run Derby even if it ends after nine innings.
Latest All-Star Game winners
Over the past 10 seasons – not counting the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic – the American League’s dominance has been outstanding.
While the National League took the honors from 2010 to 2012, the junior circuit has now won seven consecutive All-Star Games. Will they be able to do it again this year considering it will be an away game?
Home Run Derby Format
The current Home Run Derby format does not distinguish players by League, but groups the eight participants in two groups with two different brackets, being ordered by the number of home runs they have hit during the season.
The winner of each bracket advances to the second round or semifinal to face the other group winner, and the two winners go head-to-head in the final.
Each player will have 3 minutes to hit as many home runs as possible in the 1st and 2nd rounds, while the final will be 2 minutes long, and may request a 45-second pause and stop the clock at any time.
In the event of a tie between the two, each player will play a swing-off round of 60 seconds without interruptions or time-outs.
Home Run Derby 2022 participants
So far only two players have confirmed their participation in next Monday’s Home Run Derby.
The first of them was Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr., while on Monday New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso confirmed that he will be looking to win the Derby for the third consecutive time.
Also, this Monday night, Dominicans Albert Pujols and Juan Soto were added, so only four more participants remain to be announced.
How can you watch the 2022 All-Star Game?
For this season, the television rights are owned by FOX, so if you want to watch it you can do so on any of the channels associated with the network that will broadcast it.
Likewise, if you are a MLB.tv subscriber, the game will be broadcasted by the official Major League Baseball television station.
