The month of July started with a bang and brings with it a new edition of JefeBet‘s MLB Power Rankings. As we enter the mid-season and the summer officially begins, the teams that will compete for a post-season position and those that will simply wait for the end of the season to forget about it are beginning to emerge.
Below, we’ll go through a list of the teams that have excelled and those who have been getting worse in the final week of the Major League Baseball season.
MLB Power Rankings 2022: Top 3
New York Yankees
The New York Yankees have not slowed down this season and with six wins in their last ten games, they hold the best record of 2022 with a 58-22 record. Although their offense was a bit weaker last week, their collective pitching remains unbeatable and was second in the Major Leagues with an ERA of 2.51 in 61 innings pitched.
Houston Astros
The Houston Astros are looking to chase the Yankees for the American League lead and continue their hot streak with six consecutive victories heading into Monday’s action. The American League West Division leading team has a 51-27 record and last week was the best ninth in collective pitching by registering a spectacular 1.00 ERA in 54 acts. In addition, they were co-leaders in home runs with 14 and batted .274.
Los Angeles Dodgers
Prior to Mookie Betts‘ return this past Sunday, the Dodgers were leading the Nationals’ West Division with a 49-29 record and trailing the Mets by half a game at the top of the old circuit. Although their pitching was dwindled a bit by giving up a 3.39 ERA, the offense responded at the right time by hitting 13 home runs.
MLB Power Rankings 2022: Bottom 3
San Francisco Giants
While the San Francisco Giants remain with a positive 40-37 record, four consecutive losses, and eight in their last ten games, they have fallen to third place in the Nationals’ West Division, 8.5 games behind the Dodgers. Last week, the California ninth had many problems as their very good collective pitching was punished by registering an ERA of 4.00. Their offense, however, continued to struggle, and they were second to last in the league with only 13 runs scored and last with two home runs given up.
Washington Nationals
Coupled with Juan Soto’s injury this weekend, the Nationals still can’t climb out of the Nationals East Division ditch by losing four in a row last week to leave them with a 29-53 record. Washington posted the ninth-worst ERA in the league at 4.53, while their 23 runs scored were the 10th lowest in MLB.
Oakland Athletics
Little by little, the Athletics have become the team that everyone expected when their top players left this preseason, and they rank ninth with the worst record in the Major Leagues at 26-55. Oakland has dropped seven of its last ten games and trails the Astros by 26.5 games in the American League West Division. While their pitching remained in the middle of the league last week, their hitting was among the worst by scoring just 20 runs and averaging .222 collectively.
