We’ve reached the end of May, and we can dig a little deeper into the MLB Power Rankings, since the teams have already taken shape and their numbers have been consistent.
That is why, in a new edition of our JefeBet Power Rankings, we continue to look at the most powerful teams throughout all Major Leagues, as well as those who have yet to break out of the bottom half. Join us.
MLB Power Rankings 2022: The podium
Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers team reached the top of the NL West by putting together a seven-game winning streak before losing to the Phillies on Sunday. Their 27-13 record is the best on the old circuit and they lead in team ERA (2.80) and runs scored per engagement (5.4). A perfect combination to add up victories.
New York Yankees
The Bronx Bombers maintain the best record in all of the Major Leagues by showing a record of 29-12. However, their Sunday doubleheader meltdown to the Chicago White Sox caused them to lose their second series of the season and momentarily drop to second place in our Power Rankings. Aaron Judge continues to be the team’s backbone, with an MVP-worthy campaign, and his pitchers are leading the league in FIP (3.16).
Houston Astros
Despite not having a week as spectacular as May 9-15, the Astros are unstoppable, remaining leaders of the American League West Division with 27-15: the second-best record in the young circuit. Houston has won 16 of its last 20 games and its rotation is one of the best in baseball, with Justin Verlander and Framber Valdez virtually unhittable by opponents.
MLB Power Rankings 2022: The Disappointments
Cincinnati Reds
While the Reds remain the worst record on tour at 12-28, they’ve managed to improve in recent weeks with the rejoining of Mike Moustakas and Joey Votto from the disabled list. The Cincinnati team are 6-4 in their last ten games and although a comeback is impossible, little by little they are trying to get out of the pit of the Central Division of the National.
Washington Nationals
With a 14-28 record, the Nationals have the second-worst record in the National League and if they follow the path of the last few days, they will soon be the worst in the old circuit. They have lost seven of their previous ten games, and without Juan Soto, who has struggled to establish his offensive rhythm, the condition of the team from the capital does not appear encouraging.
