The free agency market has already begun, and the New York Knicks are expected to make a splash due to their salary cap room and good picks in upcoming NBA Drafts that they may use as deals.
One of those players is point guard Jalen Brunson, who is a free agent after playing with the Dallas Mavericks and who is rumored to be practically confirmed in New York, a team that, if his signing is finalized, could add one of the following names to continue building a good team.
Turnaround Targets for the New York Knicks in the Upcoming NBA Season
Donovan Mitchell
He’s one of the most remote options, but hopes remain high for both the fans and the organization.
Donovan Mitchell’s relationship with Jazz management is not the best, and a move to another team is still up in the air. The Knicks are an option, but the Miami Heat appear to have the advantage in landing the three-time All-Star when the time comes for a trade.
Collin Sexton
Collin Sexton and the Cavaliers are not at their best. In addition to the fact that the point guard is entering the last year of his contract, injuries have kept him from performing for the organization.
Now, with Darius Garland on the roster, Sexton appears to have no place in Cleveland, so the Knicks could be an ideal destination for the 22-year-old. New York needs someone who could share the ball-handling duties with Brunson, and while he may be a dangerous gamble, if he stays healthy he will surely be a success.
Dillon Brooks
Although the Knicks have a surplus of small forwards, they could use one of them to acquire another name more consistent in their game, such as Dillon Brooks.
With R.J. Barrett in his unmovable position, he would combine with Brooks to make a truly explosive duo not only on offense alongside Bronson, but also on the defensive side as his defense is among the best at the position in the game.
OG Anunoby
Toronto is not sure what to do with OG Anunoby, and trading him may be an option. That’s where the New York Knicks come in.
With the possible arrival of Brunson, Anunoby would be a great fit for the team. He is a proven defender who has improved some of his game over the years. Furthermore, he has established himself as a real scoring option by being a high-level shooter from the perimeter and off the dribble, which compliments Barrett’s attacking abilities.
