WWE has many prestigious wrestlers, and Latin participation is becoming more and more frequent. Although they are in the minority, we believe that Latin wrestlers in WWE have the potential to make a difference in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
Professional Wrestling and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) have several similarities. Some techniques are the same or at least very similar, but in professional wrestling, specifically in the case of the WWE, they are not executed correctly, because at the end of the day they are free to perform in the ring. Ronda Rousey proved to us that she the UFC cage was not the only place where she could show off, so she opted to join the WWE, where she has also had good performances.
In this article, we will not talk about the wrestlers from MMA who switched to professional wrestling, but about the Latin American fighters who are currently in WWE and who could fight in Mixed Martial Arts. The following are 6 Latin American pro wrestlers who could fight in MMA:
1.- Rey Mysterio
Although Óscar Gutiérrez, better known as Rey Mysterio, was born in California, all wrestling fans know about his Mexican roots, besides knowing his trajectory in AAA Mexico.
His experience and technique make him a candidate to fight in Mixed Martial Arts.
2.- Dominik Mysterio
If we have already talked about the father, we will also talk about the son. Dominik Mysterio is the son of Rey Mysterio and is following in his father’s footsteps in Pro Wrestling. He has the qualities and skills necessary to fight in MMA, as he has proven to be a disciplined fighter.
3.- Ángel Garza
Ángel Garza, a native of Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico, has become known in professional wrestling for his performances on SmackDown. With a height of 1.80 meters and a weight between 90 kilograms, we can place him within the Mixed Martial Arts in the future, as he handles keys very well, and he could make use of them in MMA.
4.- Gran Metalik
Gran Metalik, or Máscara Dorada, is one of the best Mexican wrestlers nowadays. In November 2021 he ceased to be part of the WWE, so he is now a free agent. If he dares to change scenery, he could get involved in Mixed Martial Arts as he has great agility when it comes to making his maneuvers and that would be, without a doubt, a great show in MMA.
5.- Golden Lynx
The native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, was part of the WWE from 2016 to 2021, putting the name of his country high. Like his teammate Gran Metalik, he is currently a free agent. His strength lies in his aerial ability and he could be a good MMA fighter.
6.- Bayley
And of course we were going to count on the Latin female presence in this list. This is Pamela Rose Martínez… Does it ring a bell? Well, you probably know her by her stage name: Bayley.
The American wrestler of Mexican descent has been in WWE since 2012, being one of the pioneers in women’s wrestling. If she wanted to, she could fight in Mixed Martial Arts as we do not doubt her experience, skills, and techniques. And we are sure that she would also become a sensation within the discipline as she is in the worldwide wrestling show.
